Welcome to the Fanime Realm Social Network!!!!
This is a little social network for those within the fanime community to hang out and maybe be able to find one another compared to how things are on YouTube currently.
(Full disclosure: This is not meant to be one of those "YouTube replacements" sites, as I see some other sites on Yooco tried to be. I know that YouTube has this ease of uploading videos and it is the most used. This site is made for community members to find eachother better because YouTube is not exactly the greatest with its tagging system for the past half of a decade.)
Got any upates you wanna share that is exclusively to here? Wanna share your episode to the world but not get bogged down by both the con and the LOLDoll of the same name (or worse, anime clips that basically used the fanime hashtag, making the clog worse)? Then this place is for you!
...
Oh! Right, I should probably explanin what is Fanime (and the Fanime Realm)
What is Fanime?
Fanime (a portmanteau of “fan” and “anime”) is basically a type of web animation that are typically created by young amateur artists that originated on YouTube around 2006, a year after the site's birth. The definition of fanime has for sure become increasingly nebulous over time.
It started out as just a genre of making animated fan fictions of magical girl shows, specifically Tokyo Mew Mew. Instead of using an animation software like Adobe Flash, creators would usually creators would usually draw frames on MS Paint, Paint.NET, or Photoshop and composite them in Windows Movie Maker
Of course overtime, there is a shift of folks using fanime as a means to create their original works and not having to abide by what is essentially limiting when it comes to fanfiction. And any creator has their own methods of animation now; though it is still common to use a combination of art program and video editing software to animate.
(For more information, you can watch this video on YouTube or read the history on FR)
Okay but how about Fanime Realm?
Fanime Realm started out as site on Neocites (has now since moved to Nekoweb) and was meant to archive information about fanime and the respective community and history. There was a bit of a disasterous launch for the site itself but was quickly fixed later on that day. "Realm" part came from the synonym of the word "Zone" because the webmaster of the website (GissyEva) was part of the YouTube Channel "Fanime Zone" before it became inactive and later confirmed to be discontinued by the admin of the YouTube channel. FR itself also got a YouTube channel and a BlueSky account. (There is also a failed forum hosted on ProBoards but we don't talk about that-) And here we are! On the social network!
So, why make a site for specifically fanime instead of other types of Indie Animation/Web Animation?
In terms of indie animation, I know that the current lanscape for it (as least the ones that is getting the most attention lately) is very much the professional looking animations and I feel that might be too intimidating for those starting out in animation.
As for other types of web animation that is more on the hobbyist side that is outside of fanime, I sadly couldn't think of a way to connect them with fanime as I stuck my head in this specific animation space. That I sincerly aplogize.
What are some things to note about this?
Well, since this is hosted on Yooco.org and I'm only using the free plan, there are some things:
1. It's probably a good idea to be scarces when it comes to uploading images directly on the site itself aappearently, there is a file limit. If you want to go all out with sharing a lot, I'd recommend using sites like Sheezy.Art, Imgbox, etc, to upload artwork/WIPs on and you can share those exact things in the forums!
2. The aspect ratio for videos is 3:4. If you do decide to upload directly to this site, I'd recommend having the video be in a side (weather you use WMM or a video editor that allows to change the ratio you want it to be). Otherwise, it might squish the video to be in that 3:4. I have made the mistake of uploading a video in a 16:9 ratio. (Thankfully, when it comes to embading YouTube videos, it's a slightly different story.)
3. Everything is still a WIP so if there are some things that needed work, I do apologize!
